Hortense and Oscar Miller built their Laguna Beach home in 1958–59. After Oscar died in 1959, Hortense made the Garden her life’s work, shaping its trails, plants, and gathering places. In 1976, she gave the 2½-acre property to the City of Laguna Beach to be preserved as a public garden and historic resource.
