Hortense Miller gave her house and garden to the city of Laguna Beach in 1973. Some of the stipulations of her gift were that she continue to live in her home until her demise, that it remain a garden and that the Friends of the Hortense MIller Garden maintain the property. Since her gift the property has survived two major fires: the Boat Canyon fire in 1979 and the Laguna Beach fire in 1993.
Because of its age, the hilly terrain and its proximity to the ocean, maintaining the house and garden is a major undertaking. We appreciate the continual support of these benefactors as well as other private individuals who have donated upon their demise:
The Massen-Greene Foundation
The estate of JoHannah Sisson
The Community Assistance Grant
The Community Foundation
The City of Laguna Beach
The Laguna Beach Garden Club
The estate of Virginia Worthington
Becoming a Friend of The Hortense Miller Garden is a lovely way to support both the garden itself as well as our Laguna Beach community, long known as an artists' colony as well as a supporter of all things local.
Soon, Friends will be able to log in to special pages where they may participate in Friends only events.
